How does your hair get 'thinned' at the hairdressers?

I don't understand. Do they cut it or put something in it that makes it thinner?

I've never understood what someone meant when they said 'the hairdresser THINNED my hair'. I don't get what that means. How does your hair get 'thinned' at the hairdressers?
They use these scissor-like tools which cut random individual strands of hair. They don't pull them out or anything, they just cut individual hairs at random lengths..

Sometimes they'll use normal scissors but it HURTS and doesn't look so good. How does your hair get 'thinned' at the hairdressers?
they use like these scissors with loads of little cuts in them

like thiss http://www.horsetackinternational.com/im…

and just go through your hair and do this cutting technique lol

it feels %26amp; looks like alot is coming offff when they do it and it feels a bit awkward to start with
They way I've seen it is that they put a razor to you hair and sweep it down, which means they are basically shaving off some of the top layers in your hair, making it thinner
when ppl thin my hair they cut random chunks from underneath

it just helps it lay down better
With me they used a sharp razor and dragged it down on the underneath layers of the hair.
Because you don't care your Hairs
You need a new stylist....
