i am currently doing an evening course in hairdressing nvq2
i really enjoy what i do and i want to get a job in the industry.
i have been told that i will past the course quicker if i got a trainee/junior job in a salon.
the problem is my age as i am 24. all the salons i have asked at say they only take on school leavers so they can pay them a training wage.
what should i do?
i need more experience and as im unemployed a training wage would be more than what i get on jsa so i would be happy to get one. What can i do to get a job in a hairdressers?
Firstly i would ask your tutors to help you find a salon willing to take you on, i was told this when i was learning the trade but i chose to experiment on friends and family and gain experience that way.I was 34! It is not vital that you get a trainee job though as its in the colleges best interest to get you through the course, You will qualify im sure and then you will get the jobs in the salons no problem as you have the grades.. If not go mobile like me and work your way up by friends and family showing off their hair and passing on your cards. Dont be scared of experimenting a bit and get insurance, this isnt expensive and will cover you for all aspects of a hairdressing career. Sorry for babbling on and good luckWhat can i do to get a job in a hairdressers?
If you arrange an adult guidance interview (free) at your local careers centre (Connexions) they'll advise you and possibly use their training contacts to do something for you. You will be surprised at how helpful they can be. Good luck.
You could grovel and sweep the floors for a while and eventually get a promotion.
