Can i have my coloured at a local hairdressers or should do it @ home?

I have tried dying my hair red once at home using a red hair packet and followed instructions carefully. When i got my results, i still seem to have black hair not red. Why? Which colour should i go for if i got black hair! I always wanted 2 dye my hair! Can i have my coloured at a local hairdressers or should do it @ home?
You cannot go from black hair to a lighter color without bleaching, and unless you go to a salon, you SHOULD NOT bleach your black hair at home! It can come out orange, or stripped, etc. In other words, there will be no good outcome.

There was no agent in the red dye that would lighten your hair before depositing the color.

Go to the salon and get a consultation. She'll tell you how much it will cost to get your hair to that color, how much work it will be to keep up, etc. It's going to be hard for you to keep up red hair on naturally black hair, because when your roots grow in, you'll have to have them bleached and re-colored again, meaning you can NEVER do it at home unless you yourself are a beautician. Can i have my coloured at a local hairdressers or should do it @ home?
if you had black dye on your hair then thats why the red didnt work, if your hair is coloured i strongly reccomend a proffessional. i work in a salon and see too many disasters all the time, believe me, its worth the money
I am a hair dresser, this is what you call a corrective color!

because of the fact you happen to have black!

If you go to a salon this is what thier going to do!

firstly your going to have it bleached, if you have damaged hair there going to use a bleach cap, and your going to keep comming in to have those done untill you reach a color in which the red of your choice is!

to do it your self!

now let talk the color red you want if you want a deep red, you wont have to bleach your hair so much, untill you reach a dark to medium blonde

then use a filler

and the color red

If you want a brighter red, your going to have to go platinum blonde, the lightest blonde

then you need a filler

and to dye your hair the fiery red color of your choice!

by the way a filler is something you buy at a beauty supply, this makes your hair all one color for your ending results as a red head!

another tip if bleaching your self use true blue, and a level 5 processer, for black hair it will take a bout 5 times to reach light blonde

good luck!
If you have asian / oriental hair you have to strip it of colour first using a peroxide then dye the colour on top.
haiddresses because they know what there doing im not saying u dont im just saying most of your trust should be for them after all it is there profession
if you're not sure what you are doing, go to the hairdressers. that's definitely what i'd do.
i dye my hair alot at home, if you want to go to a lighter color you have to lighten it first (bleach it) but theres certin color (brands) that are made for ppl with dark hair to go to a lighter hair color. i use to work at walgreens so i know they have/had them. id check there. the only time i get my hair prfecionaly done is when i want highlights.
Hair dresser. They are they for that and have gone through college learning how to. Plus it easier and they can see what they are doing.
if you have a friend thats good at it

do it at home

it is like 10 times cheaper and looks fine
Do it at the hairdressers....u dont wnt it 2 go rong @home. Y not try brunette or a lite brown
If you have really dark hair, you might have to bleach it out first. Also, if you have to go with a color a shade or two lighter than your own if your hair is super dark. Just make sure you go to a good hair dresser. I have dark hair and tried to color it on my own and had the same result as you. But then I went to a hair dresser and my hair was my normal color on the bottom, a lighter brown int he middle, and a bright red at the roots, so go somewhere reputable!
Dont do it at home unless you know what you are doing or you know someone who does!
If i was you i would go to a hair dresser to get your hair done becasue if it gose wrong they have to fix it free of charge but if you do it urselve then you will have to keep buying hair dye until you find the right colour. Before you pay for a dye look on the back of the packet or box to make sure it will cover up black hair or work on black hair
Hi!

The darker your hair is, its going to need lots of dye and patience to get the red you want. Sure you can achieve this on your own. First you must dye in steps.

Go buy a blonde dye kit. Yes I said Blonde (smile)

With dark hair a lighter hue must be given to let the Red show up.

Second go with a lighter, bleach blond. Your hair will have red tones, yet its not yet finished.

Now go for a light red dye.

After this last step, dye your hair the Red youve chosen, it should come out just as youve planned and wanted.

So 2 dyes of Blonde %26amp; Bleach blonde

1 dye of light red, and the Red you want.

This may take time on your part. Make sure you dye with a new color, once a day. So in this case, it will take about 4 days to finish. Be patient. Too fast and all in one day can damage your hair, and color.

If you dont want to chance this, and arent comfortable, then go get it dyed perfessionaly.
Do-it-yourself hair dyes can't actually lighten your hair, only put another colour on top of it so if you've got black hair those dyes won't do anything for you.

You either need to pre-lighten your hair (you can get packs of pre-lightener from the supermarket or Boots or somewhere like that) and then use the colour you wanted the next day, or you could go to a salon and have it done the same day.

I've got dark hair and I also used to dye it red, if you want a reliable result that's going to look natural you really need a professional.
i would do it @ home, try a medium brown. maybe last time u didn't keep it on long enough
