Hairdressers! If I complete nvq 1 and 2 and get a job in a salon would I start by assisting the hairdressers?

and making tea or would I get straight in and have my own clients? Also im 29 now so am I likely to get taken on when I finish? and lastly any idea what the salary is at that level? this will be much apreciated!Hairdressers! it completely depends upon which salon you apply to, what they are looking for etc.. chances are that if you are qualified and not a ';junior'; then in your interview they will ask you lots of questions, get you to do some examples of cuts, colours etc on a model and then they will decide upon your capabilities and hire you accordingly. if you are fully qualified really you should go straight to cutting though, sometimes salons won't be so quick as to get you colouring though as colouring is much more than getting NVQ's it is a science, a chemistry which is why uneducated hairdressers sometimes manage to mess up clients hair, most of them haven't even HEARD of colour remover, they just try and bleach colour out- eek!Hairdressers! you wont be taken on straight as a hairdresser ..i had to do another year on the floor, but then i was 18 . salary wont be very good probably minimum wage + tips .you could do the course,go into a salon for a year to pick up hints and tips and to improve your speed then go mobile .
It all depends on the salon and on weather thay ask you to bring a model in for your interview so thay can see what you can do , you just could be just started of as a junior stylist and maybe do the odd blow drys and maybe putting some rollers in and putting colours in - assisting a senior stylist , every salon is different so it all depends on them , if i was you when you finish your nvq 1 and 2 do your nvq lever 3 it will go down better on your cv when looking for a job .

sometimes is doesn't matter what age we are we all have to start by making the teas and coffees , brushing the floor i still do it now and Ive been doing hairdressing for over 15 yrs , not sure on what salary as again every salon pays different.
You'll start making the coffee and shampooing and watching and helping to learn and the pay is likely to be the minimum wage.
If you are qualified enough and have a great knowledge and prove to your employer you will not mess up a clients hair well i guess you may be considered to start cutting straight away. But we all have to start somewhere!
depending upon the salon u mtie get ur clients wen ur start but b prepard 2make cups of coffee n tea no matter how qualified u am ull still do the odd 1 :)

gd luck :)
